Your Candle

When your candle’s barely burning,
When your breath is just a sigh,
Step out into the darkness —
Lift your prayer to God on high.

Remember how He loves you
Amidst your fear and sin;
Remember how He died for you
And did the victory win.

He’ll carry you in darkness,
He’ll comfort you in grief.
He’ll give you all you ever need
If you’ll just trust in Him.

And if you don’t feel trusting,
If doubt and fear creep in,
Just let it go, give Him control,
Just give it all to Him.

Don’t Throw It All Away

Don’t throw it all away …
So you’ve messed up,
You’ve screwed up —
Keep your head up.

Don’t throw it all away …
In your anger, in your pride,
Don’t allow the pain inside
The truth to override.

Don’t throw it all away …
Life’s too precious,
Infectious;
God’s perfecting us.

Don’t throw it all away …
God still loves you,
He’ll protect you;
Don’t listen to what others say.

The backbiters,
The infighters,
The naysayers,
The faith slayers.

Don’t listen to the “no” sayers.

It’s not up to them or you.
Surely God’s word is true.
Don’t believe lies
And don’t compromise.

The fact that He loves you,
The truth that He died for you,
His heart surely burns for you,
You must let Him live in you.

Can You Hear Jesus?

Can you hear Jesus?
His voice so gently calls.
I hear Him in the crashing waves,
In clear, bright mornings,
In darker days.

Can you hear Jesus calling?
He wants to own your heart.
Can you hear Him in the wind?
The fresh, cool breeze?
The Voice within?

Can I hear Jesus speaking?
Or is my heart too deaf?
Will I turn away from Him,
Let call grow dim, or
Let Him wash away my sin?

Can we hear Jesus speaking?
And let us meet one day,
On other side,
Without our pride —
He patiently abides.

Face Like Flint

(Isaiah 50:7, Luke 9:51)

Lord how can I be
As strong as You?
I don’t have a clue.

The Pharisee’s opinions
Didn’t affect your dominion —
You did what You had to do.

Will You help me be strong?
Keep on keeping on?
The road is so long.

Set my face like flint
And don’t look for hints
Of what others are thinking.

Have You Got My Back?

Feeling alone
And forlorn.
There’s nobody home.

Must keep on track,
Have you got my back?
Help me, Lord.

I know I’ll get through this,
With God I can do this,
But it takes so long.

You’re changing me daily;
I’m feeling so fraily.
My God is my strength.

The enemy

The enemy will tell you lies;
Don’t be surprised.
Says you’re no good —
You ought, you should
Give up and never try again.

He worms and wiggles,
He really squiggles
Into your mind —
He gets inside.

Will twist and turn,
Pervert and squirm,
Ooze into you,
But you must choose.

Rebuke the lie —
Yes, you must try.
Receive the grace
And win the race.

Blest are the Broken (Matthew 5:4)

Blest are the broken,
Shattered and torn,
Those who are weeping,
Those who now mourn.

In our deep sorrow
God is so near.
He walks beside us —
We need not fear.

From broken pieces
He now creates
Mosaic of His beauty —
Majesty great.

Be not ashamed now
Of broken heart.
Know that He loves you
And make a new start.

Healing Rain

Rush of the rain,
In waves and showers.
Thirsty the earth,
Now will come flowers.

Like Holy Spirit
Comes the rain.
Watering soul
And life again.

Dry was the earth
And hard as iron.
Dead was my soul
‘Til caught on fire.

Spirit of God
Will now break forth.
Like little seedling,
Life brings hope.

Confession

The wound of sin
Festers within,
Until God’s light
Can make it right.

Why try to hide
The pain inside?
The healing comes
When brought to light.

Who Are You?

Who are You? Divine are You.
A mystery to me.
So great and vast Your universe;
I can but humble be.

Who are You, Who makes the stars
And tender flowers that bend
Under a gently fragrant breeze,
Or continents can rend?

Who are You Who stirs my heart
Though it be calloused with sin?
Who resurrects my deadened soul
And new life brings within?

Who can bring the dead to life
And heal a broken heart?
Who can kindle love within,
When hatred was the start?

Who is He Whom angels sing,
To Whom the great hosannas ring,
Who brings all hope to suffering,
He is the great, the Most High King!
All glory, honor, let us bring!
