Rabbits in My Garden Pot

Pretty soon I (hope to?/) might have…rabbits in my garden pot.

Today, I happened to look out on the patio deck through the sliding glass doors, and saw a rabbit in one of my large garden pots, about an 18-inch diameter one, and perhaps just as tall. It was furiously digging in the dirt, making a medium-size depression. It came and went a few times, flicking dirt out over the rim of the pot. I could not understand what it was doing, and thought it might be digging for roots.

So I asked about the rabbit’s behavior on a gardening forum, and I have been learning so much!

Most likely, the rabbit is a female making a nest for little rabbits to come! Those of you, who unlike me, grew up in a less urban environment, are saying, “Duh!” But anyway, there’s no shelter over this garden pot. Even so, the “experts” are telling me that the mother rabbit will line the depression with her own fur and/or grass clippings soon before the bunnies are about to arrive.

Just about nothing is more entertaining to me than observing animals in action. I hope to keep this post updated as things progress. I’m not sure, though, how to get the best photos without disturbing the mother or babies. At the very least, I’ll try to keep readers posted, in words, about the outcome.

Update 6/1/2026: Well, no baby rabbits so far, and may never be. People around here agree, though, that the rabbit population is booming, more than most years.

Neither Do I Condemn You

As I write this, I’m 71. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard the Bible verse below, but today it finally sunk in, as if Jesus were speaking to me.

Jesus said to the woman caught in adultery: ‘“… Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and do not sin again.”’ (John 8:10-12)

If Jesus does not condemn the woman, then neither should I condemn myself for my sins or failings, but in gratitude, go on to live for Him and be holy with the help of His grace.

“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!” (Zechariah 9:9a)

The Summer Gardener

Sweat drools down my face,
Salty taste on my tongue.
With peppermint bug spray,
So far no bugs have stung.

Some crops do well;
Others are a bust.
Bugs get to many;
At least they don’t have rust.

Sometimes all sweaty,
My clothes a bit wet.
I sure need a shower,
But no time for that yet.

Build up the compost,
Water if soil is dry,
Pull all those weeds up;
At least I have to try.

Do a bit of harvesting;
That’s the satisfyin’ part.
All the work I’ve put in —
It’s warming to the heart.

As soon as I come in,
Take a shower right away.
Don’t want those chiggers and skeeters,
To start their itchy way.

Ah, now time for a cool drink,
Chug that water down.
Have a seat in the parlor,
A smile replaces frown.

Something More

How long is forever?
Begin now to prepare.
Make sure all your endeavors
Don’t holy goals impair.

Each day must draw you closer
To destiny’s writ scroll.
Another dawn may not be sure –
The funeral bells may toll.

No one knows the answer
To when life’s course will end.
Few or many moments –
How goes the time you spend?

Will all your riches bring you
True happiness and joy?
Or do you need to look within
And search for something more?

Speak No Evil

secretangel's avatarThe Abuse Expose' with Secret Angel

Speak no evil…
is what we need to stress today…
avoiding all negativity…
and trying to be positive in every way.
And as schools start again…
with kids coming together this year…
let’s put a stop to bullying…

Tell Your Story

Tell your story –
Your life is gold.
Each precious life –
Its story must be told.

Do you not know?
Your wounds can heal another.
Through them you passed;
Your life was turned asunder.

From wounds you learned;
Your heart became much stronger.
Your life has turned;
It’s time to tell another.

The years must pass;
If well, we grow and flourish.
And now, at last,
We can another nourish.

The Selfish Cells (2)

The lumpectomy surgery was successful!

The one lymph node they removed was cancer-free, halleluia!  But, they did find some cancer on one of the margins, so I’ll have another shorter surgery, scheduled for 11/30/2018, to remove those cells.

Radiation will perhaps start in early January.

A Voice to Speak

I cannot live in frozen fear
And yet, I often do
Fear of what you think of me
And what I think of you

I need the Savior’s loving grace
His wisdom, bright and true
His love for sinners and for saints
His love for me and you

That He would give my being
A voice to speak His love
His wisdom, truth, and mercy free
His view from heaven above

The Rat

***WARNING***: Morbid content.
[Note: I will be dismantling my broken compost bin.  In general, they are a good thing, but should not have holes (like mine) where creatures can get in.]

The rat appeared
In my compost bin.

So cute and furry;
It stared at me with fearful eyes.

Sadly, I knew it must go —
Rats multiply,
And sometimes spread disease.

I set the traps —
Keenly aware of my intent to kill.

Soon the trap was sprung,
But the poor creature was still alive.

I felt like a soldier.
I didn’t want to kill it,
But humans must be protected also.

The creature was just being itself,
Trying to survive.

I won’t tell how it finally died.

Death entered the world.

The Beauty Within You

What is the beauty within you?
That God-made, deep inside,
Don’t-need-to-hide beauty?

What are your dreams and schemes,
The bright sunbeams,
The things that keep you going?

Has life beat you up?
Do you want to give up?
Can you try to look up?

Feel ugly inside?
Are you trying to hide?

Will you give God a chance?
Will you let Him romance
Your soul?

He wants to enfold you,
He’s not trying to scold you,
He’s waiting right now for you.

Just open the door,
Come in from the cold,
So your heart can behold

The One who adores you,
His heart broken for you,
He died on the cross for you.
