Faith Comes In

The picture is blurry,
The end is unclear.
The boat, it is leaking.
The vultures draw near.

But this is where
Faith comes in,
Faith comes in,
This is where faith comes in.

The rope, it is fraying;
Your hands getting weak.
You don’t see an opening,
Some comfort you seek.

And this is where
Faith comes in,
Faith comes in,
This is where faith comes in.

The last pennies jingling,
The bills left unpaid.
The doc’s diagnosis
Has made you afraid.

You drive in the darkness,
The rain pouring down,
Dear Jesus, please help me
Get back into town.

Your friends, they have left you,
Or so it can seem.
You’ve used all your options,
Might give up your dreams.

But you need to let
Faith come in,
Faith come in,
You need to let faith come in.

There may not be answers,
You just need to trust … and let
Faith come in,
Faith come in.
You need to let faith come in.

Surrounded by Saints

Imperfect people,
Conflicts abound,
Striving for light –
In Christ, heaven bound.

Difference of viewpoint,
Don’t always agree,
But somewhere in heaven,
We’ll all be free.

And I’m
Surrounded by saints.
In God’s eyes, so great –
I’m surrounded by saints.

They don’t shout the good things
That they have done,
Humbly continuing
God’s work, ‘til it’s done.

And I’m
Surrounded by saints.
In God’s eyes, so great –
I’m surrounded by saints.

Yes, I get angry,
I get in a funk –
Don’t like what they’re saying
‘Cause I’m selfishly stuck.

But I’m
Surrounded by saints.
In God’s eyes, so great –
I’m surrounded by saints.

So, Lord, make me humble,
Please melt my hard heart.
And teach me to trust You
To do my own part.

‘Cause I’m
Surrounded by saints
Made whole by Your grace –
I’m surrounded by saints.

Morning Reveille

[Reveille:  “a signal given on a musical instrument
(such as a bugle or drum)
in the early morning
to call soldiers or sailors to duty.
Rhymes with “heavily”.
www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary]

The battle rages on,
Must get into the fray.
As evil forces
Take their courses,
What good can I do today?

Before I get out of bed,
Devil’s trying to take me down,
But Jesus’ strength
Will recompense —
What good will I do today?

The world looks so strong,
But I must keep going on.
The way things seem
Might be a screen –
Can I do some good today?

Must persevere, it’s true;
Not look at circumstance,
Believe God’s word,
Though life’s absurd –
He’ll bless me with good today.

Just take one step at a time,
Must live in trust sublime,
And leave the rest
To God’s good sense –
Jesus helps me do good today.

A Child Be

How can I His child be
When worldly cares relentlessly
Beat at my door?

I must let go,
Let trust decide
And be my guide.

Let go with wings
And songs that sing
Eternal glory.

Give up my way
And eyes must stay
On unseen Lord.

Does He now know
My suff’ring deep?
Of course; ‘tis His.

And calmly will I
Go to sleep
And rest in Him.

Your Candle

When your candle’s barely burning,
When your breath is just a sigh,
Step out into the darkness —
Lift your prayer to God on high.

Remember how He loves you
Amidst your fear and sin;
Remember how He died for you
And did the victory win.

He’ll carry you in darkness,
He’ll comfort you in grief.
He’ll give you all you ever need
If you’ll just trust in Him.

And if you don’t feel trusting,
If doubt and fear creep in,
Just let it go, give Him control,
Just give it all to Him.

Help Me Love You

Jesus, help me love You,
Help me live for You each day,
Put my life into Your hands,
With faith keep fear away.

Help me see the beauty
You made for me each day.
Recognize Your glory
In things that come my way.

See You in each moment,
In the clouds and sun.
See You in disguises
That all around me come.

See Your plan so awesome,
In joy and sadness praise.
See you both in drudg’ry
And pleasant things each day.

Put my trust completely
In Your plan so great.
Let me tell Your story
So all can contemplate.

The Lord Loves the Unlovely

The Lord loves the unlovely,
And sinners He will bring to grace.
How dimly do we see,
With clouded eyes,
His purpose great.

His plan, His picture,
His canvas broad and wide,
His tapestry of colors,
Our fears do now belie.

While we are being molded,
Often unaware,
He paints His colors lovely —
Take heart; do not despair.

Tenderly He fashions
Exquisite work of art.
To soul, though torn and shattered,
His healing will impart.

Oh, drink the healing waters;
Oh, come and do partake.
Let all His love enfold you,
And fear do now forsake.

On Jagged Cliff

On jagged cliff
I stand on edge.
For love of God
I take the chance.

Or stand at start
Of tunnel dark
And enter on
A somber lark.

I walk the rope
Twixt light and dark.
Upon His word
I must embark.

I cry and cry,
I moan and sigh,
And then He says,
“Just trust Me now.”

And like a child
I take His hand,
Beginning now
Adventure grand.

Broken Today

Broken today
By my own sin.
Tears of sorrow
Fall like the rain.
Only Your love
Will bring a new day.

So weak without You;
Why do I doubt You?
Wandering eyes
Start looking at lies.
Inadequate soul —
Why my surprise?

Why all the violence?
Lacking godly reliance.
Too driven by lust —
In God we must trust.
We all have our fears —
To Him let’s draw near.

Feel so insecure,
But Your love is sure.
Yes, I am weak,
But Your strength I will seek.
Though sometimes depressed,
By You I am blessed.

You’ve won the war,
The strife for my soul.
Now I allow
Your grace to endow
Your new life in me —
And thus victory.

Utterly Weak

Why do I suffer?
Why do I fall?
Is it a lack of something within?
Is it a deafness, blindness, sin?

Is it my fault,
A weakness large?
Is it an ignorant, stubborn heart?

Or perhaps all these,
Seized on to torment,
By an enemy fierce
Who confusion foments?

Your grace do I seek;
I am utterly weak.
My eyes cannot see;
My ears wrongly hear.
Help me to trust
In You — that I must.
