When all the darkness fades away
And light begins to dawn,
Will we remember all the pain
Ourselves and others bore?
Will we remember kindnesses
Both given and received?
Will we remember comfort found
From those who saw us grieve?
Will we remember others’ pain,
Or only just our own?
Just time will tell, remember well,
How much through this we’ve grown.
The King is coming in mighty pow’r
We do not know the day nor hour
He’ll ride upon the thund’ring clouds
Midst lightning flashes and angel choirs
No longer will sin darken hearts
All sin away — its curse departs
In shining brilliance, true majesty,
The King is coming — all darkness flee!
If only I could speak —
To tear down strongholds,
To shatter darkness,
To shred the webs of dread deceit.
God’s words alone have this power.
His power brings His blinding light,
His breath — it scours away our sin,
And shatters clever, insidious lies,
Enlight’ning places dark within.
If only I had the power, but —
Surrend’ring humbly to His grace,
Letting my weakness gain His strength,
Perhaps I help the human race.
Embrace lengthy darkness;
Embrace the unknown.
‘Til darkness is faced,
You’ll never come home.
Accept all the sadness,
Worry and fear,
As if but a step
‘Till all becomes clear.
You’ll persevere through it;
You’ll take each road’s twists.
Plod on, ever trusting,
‘Til fog fin’ly lifts.
The clouds they are lifting;
Embrace the uncertainty;
Make friends with your fear.
Discomfort won’t kill you;
Disorder won’t crush.
Life sometimes is messy –
March on; so we must.
Shatter the darkness,
Bring searing light.
Break all the bondage
With holy might.
Rend all the ramparts,
Strongholds of fear;
Bring understanding —
With wisdom draw near.
Strengthen our weakness,
Your courage now give.
Cleanse with Your Spirit
Our madness and sin.
Strike now our enemy,
Make him forlorn;
Let all his strongholds
Be tattered and torn.
Give us Your power;
Your spirit embue.
Without you, dear Jesus,
There’s naught we can do.
When your candle’s barely burning,
When your breath is just a sigh,
Step out into the darkness —
Lift your prayer to God on high.
Remember how He loves you
Amidst your fear and sin;
Remember how He died for you
And did the victory win.
He’ll carry you in darkness,
He’ll comfort you in grief.
He’ll give you all you ever need
If you’ll just trust in Him.
And if you don’t feel trusting,
If doubt and fear creep in,
Just let it go, give Him control,
Just give it all to Him.
Shattered by silence,
No words to express,
Mumbling and muted —
No words will caress.
No great approval,
No smiles of delight,
No healing laughter,
Or love at first sight.
Frozen in fear,
And buckets of tears.
Come out of the darkness,
Come into the light,
So wounds be acknowledged
And wrong be made right.
I’m waiting for that day
When He returns
In bright and shining glory.
I’ve got to tell the story
How He loved me all the time,
But I — confused in mind.
He always walked beside me,
Tried every way to guide me,
But there was no way I would see.
Couldn’t seem to grasp His story
My ears were stopped, and surely
My eyes were blinded too.
I walked in deepest darkness
Lived life in blackest starkness
My heart was frozen.
Now He leads me through the night
I look to Him for light
Like a little child.
Your Love is told a thousand ways
As steady we traverse our days.
The fact that we exist is one,
And then the Father, Spirit, Son.
Each new green leaf, each tender stalk,
Each fragrant flower, as we do walk.
A tender touch, a kindly smile,
The one who says, “Come stay a while.”
Forgiving words and peaceful pardons,
Sustaining waters, grace-filled gardens.
Creation sings; Your love song rings.
The stars, the skies, let praises rise.
Majestic mountains, roiling streams,
Icy fountains, bright sunbeams.
And darkness too, can give You glory —
More brightly shines the candle’s story.
A thousand ways let hearts explore.
Your Love still gives a thousand more.
This ship I travel, on treach’rous sea
I often wished that I could flee
I did not choose this ship of life —
Of sin, of sorrow; sadness, strife
I felt alone, though many traveled;
In darkest ignorance my life unraveled
But now and then a Light would shine
And slowly came the gift divine
I am not here for self alone
My purpose through the darkness shone
And as this ship sails on or stalls
With others do I meet life’s squalls
And I have met an Unseen Friend;
His Presence here do not contend
And if I may but save one soul
From falling, jumping in the sea
My soul will thrill, my heart will sing
‘Tis purpose done; ’tis destiny
