In Your Eyes

A tiny speck, a mote of dust.

One of millions — of wind, a tiny gust.

A tiny atom, or particle minute.

All but invisible; a trivial pursuit.

So insignificant, mostly unknown.

Almost invisible — like a bird now flown.

But in Your eyes, Lord, as Your gaze falls on me,

I am soon made whole, and touch eternity.

In Dust and Rain

You lifted me up, for a while.
I flew like a butterfly on weightless wings,
But I had to come down to earth.

I am a worm now, crawling in the mud.
But worms make way for growing things,
For trees, and flowers, and birds that sing.

It’s all the same,
In dust and rain,
In joy or pain.

Love has to hurt —
So life gives birth,
And pain gives way to joy.

Giving It All Away

There’s nothing left,
I’ve been drained dry.
Can’t force a smile;
Can’t even cry.

I feel I’ve given
All I can give.
Except perhaps
My mess and sins.

Put all my energy
In what I thought …
Was most important,
What meant a lot.

And now I find
It all is dust.
A new beginning —
I’ll have to trust.

Yet there is hope
Within my soul.
God’s pruning me,
To make me whole.

Lord, take my mess
And all my sins.
Then You will truly
Dwell within.

If All the Stars

If all the stars like dust were blown
From palm of God upon the earth,
And fell like snow into the night —
Their glitt’ring shine,
Their silent birth —

And whispered quiet melody
Of dancing angels
Far and wide,
Of tinkling, tiny, windy chimes —

They sing to me
Of happy times.

Oh, universe
Now will burst forth,
In praise and song
To God divine.

You Brought Me Low

O Lord, You brought me low —
A worm in the dust.
I despised myself
And was despised by men.

Mocked and ridiculed,
My hair hung down.
No beauty to attract others,
No winsomeness, nor delight.

I fought to breathe;
I choked in dust.
I grabbed for anything —
My soul was desperate.

But You, O Lord,
Were with me,
Though I did not know it.

I wandered in a parched land;
In desert plains I wandered.

You waited for me.

How You must have cried
To see me thus.

I cannot know your purpose,
Neither then nor now.
Only that You love me,
And I must You, somehow.
