Heaven, My Real Home

The earth is not my home,
Nor any special land.
Though my heart beats strong
In many places,
In lands where I know many faces —
Still, none can I call home.

Heaven is my home,
Though it I’ve never seen,
Except, when the Creator set
My soul upon earth’s scene.

Heaven is my home,
Seen only in my dreams,
Through mists of time,
Through clouds sublime,
In half-heard tunes
Under bright-lit moons,
In sideways glances
And angels’ dances.

And so, when I go home,
I hope you’ll soon come, too;
On angels’ wings, as choirs sing —
We’ll all be finally home.

Morning Begins Again

MORNING BEGINS AGAIN

Morning begins again —
Fresh breeze upon my skin,
The promise of new things,
The hummingbird on wing.

The slate, it still is blank.
I pray, and yes, give thanks
For new beginnings,
For hearts now turning,
For all my yearnings.

The mourning dove, it coos.
I pray that I won’t lose
My hope, my faith, my patience here —
Nor let dread problems
Bring on fear.

So let our souls be light
Like angels, now take flight.
Give all to God
Though thoughts may prod —
The day comes after night.

The Traveler

I must go on,
For the road is long.
No matter how I think or feel,
I must go on.

I must be strong —
Still the river flows.
Where it leads; I do not know.
I must be strong.

I must keep on,
Though all seems dark.
No matter what some say or do,
I must keep on.

Though throat be parched,
Though eyes do sting,
Confusion reign or angels sing —
Remember Jesus’ suffering.

Keep on the road,
And do not fail,
Though drink be bitter, bread be stale.
To heaven’s gate I must prevail.

If All the Stars

If all the stars like dust were blown
From palm of God upon the earth,
And fell like snow into the night —
Their glitt’ring shine,
Their silent birth —

And whispered quiet melody
Of dancing angels
Far and wide,
Of tinkling, tiny, windy chimes —

They sing to me
Of happy times.

Oh, universe
Now will burst forth,
In praise and song
To God divine.
