Some People

Some people don’t have it together.
Their home is a mess,
Things everywhere —
Do they not care?

Some people don’t have a car.
They walk everywhere,
Or maybe on bike,
Or the bus not on strike.

Some people don’t have a living.
They’re tired of giving
All of their energy.
They need a strategy.

Some people still haven’t learned,
They often are spurned,
They don’t have a life,
Their life full of strife.

Some people need so much hope.
They don’t need the dope.
They need Jesus Christ,
Who alone can give life.

To Be Human

To be human
Is to love – and lose.
Then my response
I need to choose.

To be human
Is to hurt – and cry.
Perhaps anger will
My hurt belie.

And then my anger
Might energy give
To right the wrong,
To help me live.

To be human
Is to have deep needs.
I might deny them,
But they’re the seeds …

To bring salvation
If I’ll confess
How needy I am –
That my heart is a mess.

But if my love
Is real and true
Will it be spurned?
I don’t have a clue.

And if my “love”
Has selfish roots,
I’m back to square one –
Truer love to pursue.

But I’m always learning,
Ever learning.
And for God’s truth —
Forever yearning.

Giving It All Away

There’s nothing left,
I’ve been drained dry.
Can’t force a smile;
Can’t even cry.

I feel I’ve given
All I can give.
Except perhaps
My mess and sins.

Put all my energy
In what I thought …
Was most important,
What meant a lot.

And now I find
It all is dust.
A new beginning —
I’ll have to trust.

Yet there is hope
Within my soul.
God’s pruning me,
To make me whole.

Lord, take my mess
And all my sins.
Then You will truly
Dwell within.
