Pandemic

When all the darkness fades away
And light begins to dawn,
Will we remember all the pain
Ourselves and others bore?

Will we remember kindnesses
Both given and received?
Will we remember comfort found
From those who saw us grieve?

Will we remember others’ pain,
Or only just our own?
Just time will tell, remember well,
How much through this we’ve grown.

Home

A place where you can hang your hat,
And say “Good morning” to your cat,
To drink your coffee in pajamas,
Or raise a herd of lovely llamas.

A place where you can be a king,
Or queen, if that’s your hankering.
A place where you can be a fool,
Or spend some time beside the pool.

A place where you can get some rest,
A place to be your very best.
A place where you’re so much encouraged,
A place where you can freely flourish.

A place of many smells and voices,
A place where you have made some choices.
A place where people tend to greet you,
And say that they are glad to see you.

Or maybe you can be your worst;
Growl at the dog, and sadly, curse.
You wake up grumpy; you’re a bear,
But still the people love you there.

You say, it’s not at all like that?
Your home, does it these senses lack?
No domicile is truly perfect;
In fact, at home, you feel a reject.

Our real home’s in heaven above,
A place of everlasting love.
And there, you’ll meet with all your dreams,
You’ll live by living, flowing streams.

God has for you a mansion great,
With rooms that for your soul await.
And good or bad, your home on earth?
For that new home, to wait it’s worth.

Insomnia

Can you hear the moon at night?
Its bright beams crashing in noisy light?
When sleepless eyelids long to rest,
With jangled thoughts – unwelcome guests.

Can you feel the soft night air,
The gentle breeze upon your hair?
At least in restless night you feel
Some hint of comfort, the air surreal.

And then beyond the restless fears,
Or aching leg, or head, or ear,
You find inside a solid place
That lets you sleep, with God’s good grace.

Sadly Seeing

It is my way
Of sadly seeing.
My temperament,
A type of being.

A melancholy
View of life.
I tend to see
The sadness, strife.

Don’t think you ought
To be like me.
It’s good that others
Flowers see.

But if my tears
Will help you care —
That is the reason
That I share.

Or to let go
Of burden borne.
We’ll share the load,
Not be forlorn.

Grief

Was there some comfort
I could have given here?
A song to sing,
That could have stopped the tears?

Did I not smile,
Nor give a fond embrace,
When sadness threatened
Or sorrow creased your face?

Did I ignore you
When you were so forlorn?
Or turn away
When you by men were scorned?

How does one soul
Give solace to another?
How can one person
A broken heart uncover?

Then gently heal,
As surgeon of the heart –
At first some pain,
But mending then does start.

Some Comfort Lend

I did not ask to be here –
Yet, I am.

And still,
I have a choice –

To beat bitterly
Against my course,

Or choosing otherwise,
To take

Life’s ups and downs
As lessons –

For life’s sake.

And ‘long the way,
May I some comfort lend

To fellow travelers –
Until life’s certain end.

To You Who by the World Ignored

To you who by the world ignored

I write these words, I you implore

Take heart, and do not be dismayed

Your time is coming; He’ll not delay

In glorious light He will appear

Heal  every  hurt, calm every fear

Repair all wounds, dry every tear

Your King is coming; He draws near

To little babes, who only moan

He hears your every cry and groan.

He sits not only on the throne

But with you stands; you’re not alone.

He knows you have no weapon strong,

He will prevail and right the wrong.

To those who cannot walk or speak

He knows your heart is hurting deep.

He’ll be your hands, your mouth, your feet.

To those abused, He knows your pain;

He is full strong, can stand the strain.

He only asks you lean on Him

Forgive the sinner, forgive the sin.

Like Mary, who behind the scenes

Endured her Son’s most agonized screams

We quietly our hearts entrust

To Him who never disappoints
