The Moving Clouds

It doesn’t feel much like heaven now,
Though I get glimpses of it.
Those who nearly die
And have visions of heaven, or hell —
Live transformed by gratitude.

I don’t know why
Some see heaven
And others do not.

Perhaps we have to train
Our hearts and eyes.
Perhaps we need to deliberately
Think
Of seeming coincidences
As real miracles.

We have forgotten our wonder,
Filled with self-importance,
Thinking we are the only creators.
What a heavy burden to bear!

Do you ever stare
At the moving clouds,
And wonder?

Bring Them to the Cross

Your broken body,
Your fractured faith,
Your shattered dreams —
To the cross now take.

Your failed friendships,
Your social gaffes,
The misunderstandings —
Under the cross, now past.

The things you wanted,
The things you lost,
All worldly dealings —
Now bring them to the cross.

Let them go and
Let them be.
Just put them down
Under the tree.

Release the burden,
Let go the weight;
Then God, His love
Will demonstrate.

Sadly Seeing

It is my way
Of sadly seeing.
My temperament,
A type of being.

A melancholy
View of life.
I tend to see
The sadness, strife.

Don’t think you ought
To be like me.
It’s good that others
Flowers see.

But if my tears
Will help you care —
That is the reason
That I share.

Or to let go
Of burden borne.
We’ll share the load,
Not be forlorn.

Embrace

How to hug the world’s pain?
A hug could seem so trite.

To let hope enter in again,
Make heavy burden light?

How to ease the suffering
Of untold millions’ blight?

How to bring a healing balm,
A quiet calm, a lasting peace,
A heart at ease, a healing light?

Oh heavy burden, how to bear?
The Savior’s groan does pierce the air.
