Can you hear the moon at night?
Its bright beams crashing in noisy light?
When sleepless eyelids long to rest,
With jangled thoughts – unwelcome guests.
Can you feel the soft night air,
The gentle breeze upon your hair?
At least in restless night you feel
Some hint of comfort, the air surreal.
And then beyond the restless fears,
Or aching leg, or head, or ear,
You find inside a solid place
That lets you sleep, with God’s good grace.
And restless days;
I wake at one,
And then I pray.
What are you trying to teach me, Lord?
Why can’t I hear Your voice?
I beat against Your heart, so good;
Don’t seem to have a choice.
There’s something that You’re saying;
My ears are all stopped up.
I need a precious miracle;
Don’t let me now give up.
Extending through the mists of time —
The mystery of Your love divine.
If I could grasp that love so deep,
My heart and mind would be at peace.
Where is the place
I can call home?
At ocean shores,
Or mountains high,
In grassy plains,
Or deserts nigh?
Near rushing streams,
By forests green,
Or just in dreams
Will I be free?
Will I find rest
Upon a path
Strewn with my tears,
Or might I laugh?
In God I must
Seek out my rest.
And then at last
Will end my quest.
