Cling to the Cross

Cling to the cross
And trust its might power.
Remember what He did for you
In every minute, hour.

Focus on Him
And keep your eyes above.
Let earthly cares now fall away,
And drink His cup of love.

Take up your cross;
With grace your burdens bear.
Let not your cross bring bitterness —
Have hope, and don’t despair.

Carry your cross,
And one day there will be
A glorious crown, a shining light;
Make love your destiny.

Gazing

Through driest desert and shifting sea,
Through darkest desolation —
Lord, let me gaze on thee.

Through mocking words and misery,
Through strife and consternation —
Lord, may I gaze on thee.

Through times of ease and much delight,
Through times of jubilation —
Lord, keep my gaze on thee.

In laughter, joy, and questioning,
Or worldly obfuscation —
Lord, I will gaze on thee.

Agony

Agony is all I feel
Until I get to You and see,
Until I let You get to me
And set me free.

Struggling, striving,
Ever hiding,
Not abiding,
Until surrender.

When I let myself let go,
When you live in me and grow,
When I let You set me free,
Is when I see.

I catch the glimpses from above,
I’m sometimes drowned within Your love,
But other times I lose the vision,
Have no focus; feel division.

I thank You for the battle won,
I thank You for Your Holy Son,
For Him who died upon a tree
And will complete good work in me.

Empty Without You

Empty without You,
Bereft of all things,
Nothing to offer,
Nothing to bring.

Only a skel’ton,
A frame without flesh,
A small, empty vessel —
Without peace, without rest.

Until You do fill me,
Until You bring grace,
Until You infuse me —
I need Your embrace.

You tear back the curtains,
You dissipate dust,
You melt all the misty,
You fill up my cup.

You bring into focus
What once was unclear.
The picture once blurry
I face without fear.
