Goodbye to a Friend (Reprise)

Lord, when the feelings end,
And things are still the same,
It takes some faith
For feelings great,
To love without pretense.

When things seem all awry,
When it’s so hard to try,
Must just express
Some bitterness,
And then let bitterness die.

Who did I think you were
That you should meet all needs?
You’re just a person
Whom I conversed with —
Not God, to Whom I plead.

The Scouring Sea

How much the ocean lifts my soul,
And fills my lungs with freshness full,
Clears cobwebs from a cluttered mind,
Breathes in new life, leaves cares behind.

In symphony the waves do roar,
They crash upon the sandy shore,
Wash, scour and sift the detritus,
And leave essential things for us.

Oh ocean, like my God so good,
Please cleanse my heart, if that you could.
Remove all bitterness and strife
And grant me peace for all my life.

While I Was Busy

While I was busy
Feeling self-pity
I missed the joy of the moment

While I was busy
Being offended
I missed a lesson I could learn

While I was busy
With jealousy and envy
I missed my abundant blessings

While I was busy
Feeling so bitter
I missed the sweetness of creation

While I was busy
Being self-righteous
I missed the grace that I could give and receive

While I was busy
Feeling you’d attacked me or my beliefs
I missed God’s unconditional love for me

While I was busy
Holding onto my anger
I missed God’s unconditional love for you
