Waitings

Clouds bursting forth,
After long pregnancy –
Such a long time waiting;
Fulfilling their destiny.

Desert blooming,
Long time coming –
Dryness senses water;
Life is flourishing.

Century plant
Growing so slowly.
Once in a lifetime
Its bloom condescending.

There are many waitings.
The patience of God
Is eternal.

More Amazed

Every day
I’m more amazed
That I have lived
Another day.

The world’s still here;
I’m still alive.
God’s mercy
Helping me to thrive.

It’s not that I’ve
Been gravely ill.
Not quite so old —
Nor over the hill.

He’s just surprised me,
Still walks beside me,
He’s keeping me here —
The purpose not clear.

Amazing grace,
How sweet the sound.
My destiny
Is heaven bound.

The Love Between Us (To My Husband)

Love’s not so much about …
How good things feel,
Romantic fantasies,
The wildest ecstasies.

Love’s when I give to you;
And you give to me.
When I serve you,
And you serve me.
When I forgive,
And you forgive me;
And sometimes all above
Might not be simultaneously.

Love is when
We talk it out,
Shout it out,
Cast about —
Find a way
To understand,
For you and I,
God’s wondrous plan.

Love is not
The glitzy clothes,
The plastic-surgery nose,
The fishnet pantyhose,
The painted lips,
The swivelly hips,
And lacy slips.

Though those might have their place sometimes,
And not always to be condemned,
The love that’s everlasting, true,
Looks in the soul and finds a friend —
Another soul with which to view
The world — both hand in hand
Until life’s destined end.

Sing Like the Lark

Look to Him, look to Him,
Though you wander in the dark.
Fly high, take wing,
Sing like the lark.

He will triumph,
He will win,
He will overcome your sin –
Let Him in.

Stay strong, keep on,
Like the eagle you will be
Flying on to destiny.

Fly high, do not fear,
Your Lord and Master,
He draws near.

Homeless

[Headline – Four homeless persons found dead from
hypothermia in recent freezing weather]

On cold and dreary winter night,
He pulled the blanket tighter still,
And tried to push the winter chill
Away from heart and soul – such fright.

Under the bridge
He found his place,
Away from prying passerby,
Away from passing, moaning wind.

He did not find the warmth he sought
And shivered uncontrollably.
That was the night
He fought and lost
His battle with cold destiny.

This Ship I Travel

This ship I travel, on treach’rous sea
I often wished that I could flee

I did not choose this ship of life —
Of sin, of sorrow; sadness, strife

I felt alone, though many traveled;
In darkest ignorance my life unraveled

But now and then a Light would shine
And slowly came the gift divine

I am not here for self alone
My purpose through the darkness shone

And as this ship sails on or stalls
With others do I meet life’s squalls

And I have met an Unseen Friend;
His Presence here do not contend

And if I may but save one soul
From falling, jumping in the sea

My soul will thrill, my heart will sing
‘Tis purpose done; ’tis destiny
