How can a God be so patient —
Waiting, waiting,
Until I’m ready to receive Him.
How can a God be so loving,
Despite the weeds of sin
In the garden of my life?
How can a God suffer for us
When we cause Him
So much suffering?
How can a God die for us?
The answer must be —
So that we can live with Him.
An allegory of God’s Love
You planted the seed of Love in my heart
You watered it
You waited patiently
One day I broke through the ground
You sent the sun and rain
You watched over me
I continued to grow
Flowers appeared
You sent the bees and bugs to pollinate
Sometimes I fell ill
You tended me until I mended
You fertilized the barren soil of my heart
Fruit began to show
You fertilized my heart again
When the fruit was ripe
Others picked it
It was sweet and refreshing
Sometimes you would prune me
At first I was angry —
How could you hurt me that way?
But then I noticed:
After the pruning, I would bear more fruit
I grew older
There was less fruit now
But still good
Sometimes there was bad fruit
You returned it to the earth
To be transformed and to nourish other plants
Sometimes fruit fell to the ground
To begin new plants
I am old now
Dry and shriveled
Soon I will return to the earth
But the seeds that fell
Will continue to grow
Watered by Your Love
Has He healed you?
Has He loved you?
Then act like it.
Has He comforted you?
Has He forgiven you?
Then act like it.
Tell your story;
Give Him glory.
If you don’t know Him – ask.
If you can’t trust Him – ask.
If you want to be closer – ask.
Have men betrayed you?
Have harsh words slayed you?
Has hate unmade you?
Then ask –
And you will receive.
All you need, not all you want.
Not what you dreamed, but more.
I swallowed the bitter pill,
And it became sweet in my mouth.
I lowered myself,
And I was exalted.
I forgave my prison warden
(from the prison that I and others had built for me),
And I was liberated.
I cried tears of grief,
And God put a new song in my mouth.
Beyond the hills,
I sense the ocean,
Miles away.
Fish frolic in rolling waves,
Sun glances off glassy waters,
Seagulls wheel recklessly in cyan skies.
How do the mermaids feel?
Are they free as the wind,
Though beneath it?
Deep, deep down,
There are no waves –
Maybe God is like that –
Unruffled by the world
Above / below Him.
For twinkle in my father’s eye,
For mother’s constant sacrifice,
For precious, awesome gift of life –
I give thanks.
For patient husband, children too,
Grandparents, siblings, nephews, too,
For cousins, in-laws, nieces few,
I give thanks.
For teachers full of expertise,
(Those projects – staying up ‘til three) –
But passed on knowledge expertly –
I give thanks.
For fellow students com’radarie,
For late night chats, and shared coffee,
For sharing notes (I’m panicking!) –
I give thanks.
To friends who shall remain unnamed;
Like parents, they did guide my sail,
Much wisdom did their words contain –
I give thanks.
For other friends, who stood nearby,
When I could not then socialize
(They really do deserve a prize) –
I give thanks.
But most of all to God above,
His plan, His purpose keeping on —
I couldn’t have done it without His love –
I give thanks!

Heaven is singing,
The choruses ringing,
Of God’s ever-love
Abiding in lightness,
In darkness, the brightness –
The Spirit, the dove
Gives strength to our weakness;
From pride, giving meekness –
The gift from above
MORNING BEGINS AGAIN
Morning begins again —
Fresh breeze upon my skin,
The promise of new things,
The hummingbird on wing.
The slate, it still is blank.
I pray, and yes, give thanks
For new beginnings,
For hearts now turning,
For all my yearnings.
The mourning dove, it coos.
I pray that I won’t lose
My hope, my faith, my patience here —
Nor let dread problems
Bring on fear.
So let our souls be light
Like angels, now take flight.
Give all to God
Though thoughts may prod —
The day comes after night.

God Sees the Best in You
No matter who you are, God loves you.
No matter what mistakes you’ve made, God loves you.
No matter what you’ve failed in, God still believes in you.
If you think you’re a mess, if others think you’re a mess,
God sees the best in you; He see what you can become.
Never give up; turn to God.
Become His child and let Him love you.
