We Can Always Dream

Once upon a time
There was innocence
And sometimes people cared
For the littlest ones

And sometimes marriages were mended
For the sake of the children
And parents sacrificed
To make a good home

And men would give up dreams
For a higher calling,
Glad to sacrifice
For something bigger than themselves —
(Where is George Bailey?)

And once upon a time
People knew that life was sacred —
And were grateful just to be alive

And maybe once upon a time
Never was  —
But it does
Exist in some people, in some places

And maybe once upon a time
Can never be —
But we can always dream

And You Say …

As I went I went for my neighborhood walk, I saw a mom sitting in her car …

—————————————————————————————————————————–

The mom daily waiting in the car
To pick up her kids from school.
The dad going camping with his son,
Even though the dad hates camping.
And you say there’s no such thing as love?

The mom or dad who cooks dinner
After a long day of work.
The kid who makes dinner
After his mom and dad’s
Long day of work.
And you say there’s no such thing as love?

The wife who bites her tongue
Instead of nagging her husband.
The husband who hugs his wife
After her emotional outburst.
And you say there’s no such thing as love?

The therapist who listens to
Rants, raves and painful memories.
The confessor who listens,
As heinous sins are forgiven.
And you say there’s no such thing as love?

The waves lapping on the shore,
The wind moaning at the door,
The flower with dew afresh,
The wild and bounteous wilderness –
And you say there’s no such thing as love?

Yes, there’s illness, pain and sorrow,
But there’s always a tomorrow.
Yes, sometimes our hearts are broken,
But much grace — by the same token.

A baby born in a stable bare,
A healing voice in the still, cool air,
The God-Man dying for our sins,
The God-Man living once again.
And you say there’s no such thing as love?
